REBECA SEGURA RAHME
BIO
Rebeca Segura (Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico 1977) is a Mexican visual artist with Syrian roots. Her painting work focuses on lineage and the body as territories of memory, fracture, and transformation. With formal training in graphic design and over two decades of experience, her practice has solidified through a deep exploration of family connections, gender archetypes, and the tensions between order and chaos.
Through an abstract approach that combines sacred geometry, intuitive gestures, and an alchemical use of color and matter, Segura has developed series such as *72 Sacred Names* and *Bruja Blood*, where personal and symbolic elements converge as a form of pictorial prayer. Her work proposes a visual act of healing, engaging with jungian thought and her cultural heritage by integrating the masculine and feminine, the visible and the hidden.
She has had solo exhibitions at galleries across Mexico and the United States — including The Blanc Gallery in Manhattan and the Jaime Sabines Cultural Center — and has been featured in international fairs and shows in Barcelona, Berlin, Buenos Aires, and New York. Her work has received multiple awards, including first place at the SeeMe New York Grand Prize, Artistic Merit at the Luxemburg Art Prize 2021, and her pieces are part of the Tax Administration Service, Mexican Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SAT) collection.
In 2023, she was selected for the Qvarentine Events international residency in Menorca, Spain, where she received direct mentorship from figures such as Lita Cabellut, Vincent Desiderio, and Ryan Heshka. She also participated in a masterclass led by Guillermo Lorca García.
From the intimate to the ancestral, Rebeca Segura’s painting vibrates with the earthy forces of the psyche and the land. She represents a unique voice within Latin American contemporary painting, working from the core toward the light.
